| Although SHIATSU literally
means 'finger pressure' thumbs, palms, knees and elbows can be used also
to stimulate or sedate the Ki (energy) along the meridian network
of the body. The whole form helps in many ways, it can simply be to relax,
ease stress, energise and rejuvenate the body over all, help prevent
illness and disease which commonly occur with us in today's fast moving
society or to relieve symptoms, be it physical, emotional or
psychological.
The form of bodywork is carried out through clothing which can make individuals feel much more comfortable and at ease when having work applied. In most cases this form of bodywork is carried out at floor level on a Futon (cotton mattress) but can be applied to the client while they sit on a stool or chair. A session with myself will last around 1 hour + consultation. On initial visit Traditional Chinese Medicene (TCM), Five Elements and Zen Principles are drawn upon to conclude personal diagnosis of the client. Advice on diet and exercise may be given to individual clients throughout visits. How can Shiatsu help? It will EASE, RELEASE and assist in SELF HEALING of PAINFUL TENSION, EMOTIONAL IMBALANCES and PHYSICAL SYMPTONS. What METHODS are used? SUBTLE STRETCHING to open the energy channels. What CONDITIONS are helped? BACK PROBLEMS - MENSTRUAL AILMENTS - STRESS/TENSION - FATIQUE - INSOMNIA - DEPRESSION - SINUSITIS - IBS - MIGRAINE - HEADACHES - DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS - JOINT PAIN - LACK MOTIVATION FEELING & (many more). How will you feel after a Shiatsu session? The treatment usually leaves a feeling of calmness and well-being, more in touch with one's body and self. There may be temporary 'healing reactions' as toxins and negative emotions can be released, this may take the form of a headache or flu like symptoms for around 24 hours. This is not uncommon and reassurance will be given. GUIDELINES FOR CLIENTS In order to gain the most benefit from a Shiatsu Session, here are some guidelines.
PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS Registered Qualified Practitioners have the initials M.R.S.S. after their names. This allows the public to know they have achieved the approved Standards of Training as established by the Shiatsu Society and are bound by the Code of Ethics of the Society. Studied with Aberdeen School of Shiatsu and Complementary Healing through to becoming a Registered Practitioner. Insight to energy work initially started with Martial Arts (holding 1st Dan). Curious to explore other ways of working with Ki (internal and external energy) I found Shiatsu. Over the years of discovery and self-development I have worked with various forms of body-mind techniques connected with Ki, taught by wonderful and highly acclaimed Teachers and Masters of their practice and bring these into my work today. This includes Qi-Gong, Seiki, Yoga, Massage and Meditation which all enhance the work I currently practice.
